Blitzkrieg sounds-Lesson 2: OGG files, voice recordings Ok friends, today we will learn how to work with OGG files and record your voices. I hope you have learned previous tutorial here:
Blitzkrieg sounds-Lesson 1
Before starting make sure you have all tools needed for the task. You will have to switch over from one tool to another, better collect and start them right away. Tools needed are described in the rest of the text.
--------------------------- Objective: OGG files --------------------------- Now, it's important to understand that for editing OGG files you need special tool. Easiest and cheapest way is to download JetAudio here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_jetaudio/ It's a free version. Download and install it. OGG files in Blitzkrieg are used for music. Music is located in Music folder, in your Data directory. --------------------------- Execution: --------------------------- First, open JA(JetAudio). Click on CONVERT then Convert Audio. Now, add files. I am using Windows sample music located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music\Sample Music. Use first one, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (Scherzo).wma. You may use any mp3, wav, wma file. Add it and select File Name. There are 2 options now: -Create new files in same folder -Create new files in the following folder(the one you pick up) These options are clear I guess, they are for you to choose where you will place output file. Now select format to OGG-Ogg vorbis. Click Start and wait for it to finish. When it's done, pick it up and replace file brief_common.ogg in Music folder. You may also save original BK brief_common.ogg by renaming it. Now, open Blitzkrieg and listen music in Main Menu. --------------------------- Objective: Voices in Blitzkrieg --------------------------- Now, we can use both SR or JA. Ill explain it with JA. Open JA and then Record. You will see a new window. On the left select Microphone(so it's checked with black V in a square). Next to it is volume control slider, use it to adjust it. Under it you have Timer. You can use to to define how long will you record. On the right side you have File naming. This is very nice option, you define how new sound should be named. By default it's Recorded Audio <Long Date> <12 Time> That means name will include name you select, date when recorded and time. To change it's name from "Recorded audio" to something else click on it and select "Recorded Audio", delete it and type a name. That new name will appear along with Date and Time. Under this you have Folder prior to location where you will save it, you can press square with 3 black dots to select it manually. Under it there's Encoder. You should select WAV as Acks in game are in that format. Also, you will select there Config. standing for Configuration of WAV type, read previous tutorial for more info. Under it you have Recording time and Recording volume. First one is used for displaying time that last while you are recording. Second one has two green bars sliding according on your speak, they show you how loud Microphone receives your voice. Let's start recording. Before that, few tips: -make sure room is quiet, you don't have any whistles or wind passing by, or traffic outside loud enough to disturb you -if you have microphone without any kind of cotton or cover for it (on the top) you might receive some strong sounds when saying words with lot of B,P,S,T and Z letters. Therefore i advise you to cover it somehow with some cotton or cloth, soft napkins will do the job -make sure you are not close to the microphone. Make a good distance between mouth and it. Although, it's up the the quality of microphone and you will try out several times and see how it goes on Now, press Start and speak. Check those green bars on the right, if they are turning yellow you are loud, if Red you are too loud. You should press Stop when you are over.
